Fission

One-Deck game type. 1 deck. No redeals.

Object

Create foundations and move all cards to them.

Rules

Seven cards are dealt to each of seven piles. The remaining three cards are dealt to three of four reserve piles.

Cards can be moved from the top of the seven piles to the reserves. There is no limit to how many cards can be in the reserves, but only cards of the same suit can be played to it, and only the top card of each reserve can be moved. Moving cards between reserves is not allowed.

Once a card from the seven piles is moved, that pile is split into two separate piles, with the top card of both being playable. Piles with only one card that are formed this way turn into foundations, and are built up by same suit, turning the corner from king to ace as necessary.

Empty piles formed from the initial seven piles cannot be filled. The game is won if all of the piles are empty or converted to foundations, and all of the cards have been moved to foundations.

Strategy

Plan ahead carefully. If you block a card on a reserve with the card it would need to be played to, you won't be able to free it later and the game will be unwinnable.

Ultimately, the first, second, fourth, and fifth cards in each stack will become the base cards for the final foundations.

Notes

Fission was invented by Albert Morehead and Geoffrey Mott-Smith during the atomic age. The concept is based around splitting card stacks like a scientist would split atoms.
