Jorvik is a Matrix client that arranges a homeserver the way a chat app should feel: Spaces are servers, rooms are channels, and end-to-end encryption is on by default.

It talks to any Matrix homeserver, so conversations are not tied to one provider, and it can be pointed at a server you run yourself.

Security keys that work when you need them, and calls that show everyone.

  • Calls show the picture of everyone in them, your own included
  • Names show plainly, without an @name added when two people share one
  • A new security key made in Settings works at the next sign-in, and a key that is not saved yet says so
  • Finishing setup after a key change no longer fails with a decryption error
  • The security key screens say what to do if you have lost your key
  • Signing up no longer shows an error while you wait for the verification email

Clearer names, and any chat can be deleted.

  • Direct messages are named after the person, with their @name beside their display name
  • Any direct message can be deleted, including one the other person started
  • The security screens say which account you are signed in as
  • The Flatpak moves to the 26.08 runtime and asks for fewer permissions

Verification with other Matrix apps works, and a batch of new features.

  • Your account gets cross-signing, so Element and other apps can verify it with your security key
  • Call someone from their profile, and invite them to a server or channel
  • Do Not Disturb, and an automatic Idle status
  • Trending and favourite GIFs
  • Link previews
  • Block and report people, and delete a server
  • A Flatpak build, and AppImage updates in place

The right panel is remembered separately for direct messages and servers.

Fixes encryption in direct messages, and a one-to-one conversation shows the other person's profile.
